Author photoMary Lou Davis was born the youngest of three children in Los Angeles, California in 1937. Her early years were spent mostly in the back seat of the family car with her siblings reading Burma Shave signs while moving about the country. Mary Lou, brother Charles and sister Nancy were close-knit siblings. In 1950, they moved to Rankin, Texas during the Spraberry oil boom, where they lived in an oil camp as described in the book.

Mary Lou Davis and John Midkiff were married soon after her high school graduation in 1955. Today they live and ranch in Midland County, Texas, which has been their home for most of their married life. Lillie Davenport, Pioneer Mother is Mary Lou’s second book, preceded in 2005 by Midkiff: A Texas Family, Town and Way of Life. The author is currently at work on a biography of the Davis family.
